What, making the villain completely sympathetic in the last like fifteen minutes of the film?

They really are very similar. In an ideal world, fun and fear would probably work pretty closely together. Totally keep each other in check and such. But then Jack followed his purpose in spite of the lack of belief, and Pitch fought against the lack of belief in spite of his purpose. Fun times were not had by all.
