[He's just about to walk away when he hears someone calling out to him. Maybe to offer help or maybe to mock him. Who knows?]

[...Nnngh. This sword business is going nowhere. Walter heaves a sigh and sets his materials down, sitting up to see who's approaching. He returns the wave after a short pause, putting his elbows on his knees and settling into a more casual posture.

He raises his eyebrows a little at the question, waving a hand at the ground to gesture to the metal rod and makeshift whetstone.]

Hardly that. Nothing here seems to hold an edge long enough to put it to use.

[He glances to the Houndour at his side. Relying on demon familiars isn't anything new, but...jeez, he'd really like a sword or something for his own use. Even if these things are strangely cute and docile.]

You're doing a good job being a stereotype all by yourself. All you need's a drum circle.

[Blake crosses his arms and looks flatly down at the kid.]

Hate to break it to you, but fortune telling is occult crap.

[Nothing about this place isn't completely insane, but being able to go and do whatever you want isn't such a bad deal. Even if the Unclean Ones here (exceptionally clean as they might actually be) are several times over more alien than anything Walter ever met in the gloomy kingdom beneath Mikado.

Traveling with demons (shut up they're demons) is, in and of itself, a rather liberating experience. Blue skies overhead, green grass beneath your feet, creatures of unimaginable power at your side, no obligations but to enjoy yourself thoroughly, some kid wav-

Walter still can't treat foreigners as naturally as he'd speak with one of his own countrymen, but if someone's trying to get his attention he's not going to ignore them. The young man turns, hands in his pockets, his Houndoom and Golduck stopping at his heels. After a moment, he returns the wave, strolling a few paces off the path and calling out a casual greeting.]

[Now, Rin didn't know a lot about making swords, but he had read a lot of manga. And when the main character broke his sword, the blacksmith pretty much threw it in a fire and - tada! Insta-sword and dramatic reveal about how important sword making was.

Rin stuck his hands into his pockets as he took a look at the sword materials.]

That's because you're tryin' to make a sword with a rock. You need heat or something to even make the blade stay. [Unless he was going for the cave man look, then he's got it down pat.] ...Or you could tie a better knot.

[Hey, there's also better ways in Ivalice. Like poison which makes you sprout mushrooms after you die. That doesn't leave a pretty crystal, though.

Most of the time, it is the case. But there are exceptions to any rule.

[He just shrugs at the Pokemon-related suggestion. Even if he had any idea of where to start with forging a sword...who knew if it'd keep an edge either, or what being forged in demonic flame would do to it. He's not going to be the one to try it out when the alternative is a decent bludgeoning stick.

Swordsman? Walter stands up a little straighter.]

More or less. I know swords about well enough to use one. [Doesn't care much for the art of it, just the hitting things with it part.]
