[Training was going well. Now if only she didn't have a type disadvantage for her upcoming battle. There was nothing she could do about that now, there wasn't any time left to catch and train a new team member. But if it didn't end how she hoped this time there was always next time. Outcomes were hardly set in stone, she knew that. It was hard to let her worries take hold when her Oshawott was so determined, Hinata had a good feeling about this battle.]

[It looked like training was winding down to a conclusion. A short hand signal was enough to indicate to his Galvantula to halt its onslaught of attacks, the yellow spider returning to take a break from acting as a living eight-legged taser. Maybe using such a high levelled Pokemon had been harsh on the pair. Even so, Shino was not one to go easy on anyone, and Hinata would probably appreciate it anyway. Although she would be at a disadvantage, he didn't think his teammate would let that deter her from trying her best. Hopefully her hardwork would pay off in her upcoming battle!

Over the past months, shinobi had come and gone. If the Fourth Hokage and a dead Uchiha could appear in Johto, he wouldn't disregard the possibility of his own team showing up - and, well, the fact she was standing across from him now was enough confirmation. Shino was grateful to be able to spend time with a teammate and good friend as Hinata. He'd been doing his best to help her adjust and volunteered himself as a training partner. Kiba and Akamaru were absent, Kurenai too, but there was a kind of familiarity in it all regardless.

Shino returned his hands to rest in his pockets.]

Perhaps we should stop for today. Why? Because any experience gained would not be much use if your Pokemon is tired out.

[Despite the disadvantages she clearly suffered going in Hinata was grateful that Shino didn't give her a break simply because she possessed a lower leveled party. She wasn't going to be someone that got by simply on favor, she worked hard training Oshawott and she would have been quietly affronted had the match been less challenging. It reminded her a lot of the training regimens she'd put herself through after becoming a genin.

Calling back her Oshawott, she smiled at her teammate. It was good to know that so many familiar faces were here, even if others were missing. It made the adjustment process smoother to have others she could ask questions or receive instructions on how to best go about this strange badge quest she was expected to complete or what to do with the egg voucher she had.]

Mm. Thank you for training with me, Shino-kun. I hope this wasn't keeping you from anything else you wished to do.

[He mirrored her action, recalling Galvantula back into its ball. There was a multitude of differences between this place and what they'd known as home. The Pokemon thing, for one.

Once upon a time (it might have been filler idek anymore), Shino had suggested she should find an interest or something of her own to pursue. It wasn't quite Konoha, but there were a number of things to busy oneself with here too. It was fairly straightforward of him to train bug-types instead of his kikaichu. Or catching butterflies. Whatever he did on his days off. And although his kikaichu were sorely missed, it wasn't a huge jump to make the adjustment, dedicating most of his time to raising them as a means of defense for himself and his friends.

To Shino, time spent in good company was just as important as other duties. Of course he didn't mind taking some of that time to see Hinata.]

You should know that it was no trouble. [pause for NAZENARA:] The reason is... it is only natural for teammates to help one another.

[She had hobbies, but they were more solitary in nature, and right now she liked the company of her friends from right now. She liked to think she was adjusting well to her new surroundings and was capable of going off on her own even if to just explore, it was just nice to be around a teammate. There were few others that knew her as well as he did. And later she would practice her taijutsu as she did a few times week despite the lack of chakra.

She just worried sometimes that being pulled from home she'd fall back into old patterns she tried so hard to break and as a result was relying a great deal more on Neji and Shino than she had.]

[He's known her long enough that he can probably tell she isn't feeling entirely sure about his logic right now despite how sound it is, but she doesn't make a fuss. [As a rule, he still found pokemon battling and badge collecting a frivolous waste of time, but when Hinata took an interest in it, he was obligated to at least pay attention. Furthermore, he did of course offer any of his surplus of pokemon to help with training whenever she felt the inclination.

He offered her a faint smile as he approached.]

You have no need of concern, Hinata-sama. Oshawott is more than skilled enough to deal with this trainer.

[Badge collecting was tedious but it was a way to fill endless hours of time in a foreign land. You just had to frame it the right way and it wasn't so bad.

Upon seeing her cousin approaching she smiled in return. With a clap of her hands she called the training to a pause, a break probably would do her pokémon some good having been working already for the better part of the morning.

She is clearly unsure of her cousins words, not because she doubts his meaning but because she's heard what others have said about this gym leader. Nonetheless she appreciates her cousins faith that this will be like any other battle and end in a similar fashion with her victorious.]

Thank you, Neji-nii-san. Perhaps later, when Oshawott is recovered, we could have a training match?

Hey, don't sweat it. Gym leaders are really nothing special.

[Says the girl with fifty-seven Pokémon of various types...]

I haven't lost one yet. A weapon's only as good as its user, after all, and if you show as much spirit in fighting them as you did in our training matches, you and your team will be fine!

[And her words earn her a smile from Hinata in appreciation.]

I can do that. Even though it's my third match, I'm still a little nervous.

Don't be. March right in there and let them know you mean business.

[She cracks another smile and rests her hand on her hip, tossing a Pokéball in one hand.]

So who're you going up against this time, anyway?

Okay. [She nods. Tenten is right but she's still working on her various confidence issues even if she's come a long way.]

Lt. Surge? He uses electric types. [Her gaze shifts to her Oshawott concern etched in the thin line of her mouth.]

How do you stay so calm leading up to the match?

Lt. Surge, huh...? He's one of the few I haven't fought myself yet, so I don't have that many tips. If they're Electric types though, you should be good with Water.

[She crouches down to extend her fingers to the Oshawott, wiggling them a little to try to get its attention, before she glances up at the question.]

Staying calm? [she repeats, with a bit of puzzlement. Then she just shrugs.] I guess I can because I always make sure I'm prepared. You know, spend a day or two in the city, watch some battles, try to scout out the Gym. Beyond that, you've just gotta have faith in your team.

I thought he would have the advantage because they're electric types. [Maybe she was wrong about that conception. Either way she would trust Tenten she'd been in this strange place much longer than she had.

Her Oshawott on the other hand happily waddles his way over to Tenten and coos hoping the other girl would pet him.]

Would you like to come with me to watch a few battles? A second pair of eyes to analyze his strategy might be useful.

Yeah, that's how to do it! Beat them down with type advantages, make them regret that they only use one type!

[Oops, her Team Gai attitude is showing. She clenches a quick fist before reaching to ruffle the fur atop Oshawott's head.]

You bet I'll go watch it with you. Let's gather as much intel as possible.

[Naruto had been making his way back to town, when he spooted a familiar comrade.]

Hey, Hinata! [Oh look- he's running over, a group of Poliwags following him.]

How's it going?

[That voice. She freezes at hearing it and forcibly tells herself to relax. It's Naruto and that in itself isn't a bad thing. Motioning for Oshawott to return to her side she turns and smiles at her approaching comrade.]

I'm doing well, Naruto-kun. [She pauses and her blush grows a little more prominent as she speaks. Her pale eyes taking in the pack of Poliwags one by one.] H-how are you?

I'm doing great! We're staying in this town for a bit, my Mom- I dunno if you've met her- but she's doing the Gym battle here so we all came to cheer her on y'know?

[Still smiling at her, he takes a moment to crouch down and peep at the Oshawott.]

Ahhh... I haven't seen this one yet! It's water type? [He is literally only guessing that because it is blue like a lot of his water ones are.]

I haven't yet, but I would like to. She should do well, she's your mother so it would make sense for her to win. [Oh god let her faint before she babbles on any further. She was perfectly capable of working with him so it'd be great if she could eventually get passed the blushing.]

Yes, he's my Oshawott. [She still hasn't come up with a nickname for him, but at this point it might be pointless to give him one. Besides her pokémon seemed to suit her quite well, much better than she initially realized when they first met.

Yeah, I don't wanna be around if they don't let her win either. She'll probably thump them one, haha!

[Naruto points to the Poliotoed beside him.]

This is Gama-chan! He was like me.. starting pokemon. What did you call yours?

Oh that wouldn't be good for them. It might not be good for either, I've notice people seem to really revere the gym leaders a lot like we do Godaime-sama and her predecessors.

[Crouching down Hinata reaches out a hand toward the Politoed letting the pokémon decide if it would allow her to pet it.

Hello Gama-chan. I... I haven't decided on one yet. [She pauses a sheepish smile forming.] Do you have any suggestions? The only thing I can think of isn't very good.

Yeah, they do. They're like Poke-kage! [That's been Naruto's name for them, for a while.]

[He crouches down too, observing her Pokemon.] Um.. not yet. Usually I just name mine whatever comes to mind, like how they act or if they remind me of something else. What did you think of before?

[She likes that title and she shows it by smiling.]

Chinsei. It's not exactly the same as Gama-chan.

It's not, but it's still a good name, I think?

[Though honestly there isn't much that Naruto would think of as a bad name.]

[And that validation is quite possibly the deciding factor as she brightens considerably. She wasn't sure but if Naruto doesn't think it's stupid then it should probably be okay.]
