Nightmares meme

Gothic text from pookatoo.com

SO, with our characters having had their final nightmares, let's have a meme where we can all share what they were. If you hadn't planned them out completely, or didn't have ideas for all of them, you can still go ahead and share whatever you did think of! Be as detailed or as vague as you want.

Even if your character didn't participate in the nightmares, go ahead and let us know what they might have dreamed about if they had!

WELLP.

The Pokemon featured in Heather's nightmares have been Mully (the Joltik she received during the Gen 5 egg drop on Valentine's day-- who she initially threatened to crush because LOSS ISSUES AND ANGER MANAGEMENT PROBLEMS, but ended up getting very attached to), Val Jr. (the seemingly-eyeless Tyrogue who reminds her VERY UNCOMFORTABLY of this guy from her canon), and Norman (a somewhat sinister Toxicroak she inherited from someone).

The first nightmare just of not being able to find Mully. Being... well, TINY, losing track of him is a RELATIVELY REGULAR OCCURRENCE and it's always a little stressful to not know where he is, like what if someone sat on him or something. The dream started out rather general and then grew more alarming and morbid, in that way dreams tend to, as it progressed.

The second nightmare continued the 'looking for Mully' theme, but this time wound up in a lot of tight, claustrophobic hallways with little to no light. In this nightmare, Val Jr. was frequently spotted scuttling out of view around corners and the tone went from anxiety-ridden to actually sinister.

In the final dream, she actually SAW Mully in the clutches of Val and the Toxicroak (both acting a hell of a lot more sinister than either really behave in actuality). When she tried to get the Joltik away from them, all that was in her hands was crushed eggshells and yolk.

AND THAT WAS IT.

Featuring in Carmen's nightmares are Chief the Kadabra, Zack the Porygon2, and Miles the Charmeleon — choices significant because they're sort of her favorites of the roster, in that Chief was her starter, and Zack and Miles are her babies in various capacities.

Her first nightmare invoked a particular canon reference from her personal history: when she was about sixteen years old (and still a detective), she worked a case pursuing the man who would ultimately prove to be one of the series' Big Bads, an ocean-themed psychopath named Dr. Gunnar Maelstrom. In the course of that pursuit, there was a point where Carmen got kicked into a holding tank containing a giant squid (yeah, I know, 90's edutainment), and it ended up grabbing her and pulling her under such that she couldn't get free. In her actual memory, her partner the Chief came to bail her out before she drowned; in her nightmare, she ends up perilously close to drowning before Chief the Kadabra shows up to get her free of it.

Her second nightmare was simpler and more Route-focused; she dreamed of having Zack stolen and forcibly evolved in front of her, playing off of the idea that it takes a Dubious Disc to evolve a Porygon2 into a Porygon-Z, and that Porygon-Z are suggested to have a glitch or corruption in their code that wasn't present in a Porygon2. And because you can't undo an evolution, it was basically a nightmare of having Zack taken away and irreparably harmed right in front of her, and there being ultimately nothing she could do about it.

Her third nightmare invoked some of her former CR with Special Agent Dale Cooper (and some mutual themes in their backstories); Carmen's earliest memory is of escaping a fire that she believes killed her parents, and fire figures heavily into Twin Peaks as a theme of evil and so on and so forth. Also, when Miles the Charmeleon was born (as Miles the Charmander), he was born scrawny and sick and had difficulty keeping his tail flame lit, despite the fact that he's quite possibly the most overpowered babything on her entire roster. So this nightmare involved Carmen and Cooper staying up late like good parents to watch over poor sickly Miles, after which Miles accidentally set fire to the house and Cooper* proceeded to hold onto Carmen and keep her trapped in there with him such that they both died in the fire.

As you can see, she had an excellent series of nights here. :|b

*For those familiar with Twin Peaks, it may not have Actually Been Coop, if you know what I mean.

Parker is actually an interesting case here, nightmare-wise, because the fact that she tends to be very literal-minded ended up clashing with the more symbolic aspects of the nightmares in a way that I hadn't expected; she ultimately found the nightmares rather weird and suspicious but not altogether ominous, mostly because they're not the sort of dreams she tends to have, and as such she didn't impute a lot of significance into them even as she was having them. Her nightmares featured Archie the Purrloin, Sophie the Ninetales, and Nate the Mightyena.

Her first nightmare was fairly straightforward: Archie the Purrloin got hit by a car. This was a canon reference to the fact that a) she named the Purrloin after her surrogate father, Archie Leach, and b) she also canonically had a surrogate little brother who died after he was hit by a car while riding his bike. The dream itself didn't really upset her so much as the fact that Archie took an untimely sabbatical right after she had it, so she got kind of finnicky about Archie disappearing right after her dream about him dying.

Her second nightmare also went to canon references: Sophie is Parker's mother figure, and halfway through Season 2, she leaves the team for personal reasons, which Parker doesn't take very well. The nightmare here involves Sophie the Ninetales running away from Parker, and her trying to chase Sophie down and make her come back.

Her third nightmare completes the trio of canon references, this time about her other dad figure (and team leader), Nate Ford. Despite being the "one honest man" of the team, Nate also tends to be the most fucked up in a lot of ways, and he has his moments of absolute merciless cold-blooded terrifying behavior, which Parker is aware of but that no one sees very often. Her third nightmare involved her running across Nate the Mightyena, who is faithful and adores her, standing over a dead body with his muzzle covered in blood from where he'd been devouring the dead guy's heart. Because you don't fuck around with Nate when he's angry.

...Either Nate, apparently.

I'm still working on a post for Ryner, but since it's not going to really go into detail, I'll do that here! Ryner's nightmares feature Rose the Clefairy (his starter who he won't admit he considers almost on the level of a daughter at this point), Jehra the Absol (his first mystery egg who he's also quite close to), and Glen the Joltik (his Gen V mystery egg who he started to really grow close to during the powers plot because electric types unite).

In Nightmare #1, Ryner and Glen were in a field doing some exercises when suddenly the ground started to crack and crumble around them. They kept moving closer and closer to the center of the little island that hadn't cracked yet, but suddenly Glen slipped and started falling into the abyss. He shot out a spider web and Ryner caught it to try and pull him up, but then Ryner's arms and hands were covered with slimy, dripping blood, and became so slippery that even Glen's stickiest of webs slipped through and Glen fell and disappeared. (Blood-stained hands can't hold onto anything.)

Nightmare #2 featured a hall of mirror-like crystals surrounding Ryner, all reflecting various folks who are important to him. (Examples include but are in no means limited to Sion, Ferris, Fuji, Chi, Toale, Arua, Milk, Pia, Peria, Zohra, Germer, and of course, the blurred figures of a blond man and a black-haired woman who disappear too fast to identify.) The only Pokemon that showed up in this one, however, was Jehra, whose reflection howled a warning before all of the reflections shattered around him with red cracks. (Nothing is permanent; he'll eventually lose anyone who comes into his life.)

Nightmare #3, on the other hand, involved Ryner's Alpha Stigma being forcibly triggered and him going berserk and fighting Rose. Trapped inside his mind, he had to watch in vivid detail as he attacked her, but she didn't run away, she just kept running in to try and save him... but when she got close enough to close his eyes, unlike every other time it's ever happened, that didn't stop it. It ended with Rose's Protect failing her and her dying to a laser beam at his hands. (No matter what happens, what he is will never change.)

Kirigiri's nightmares are probably the least detailed of any of my characters', but they involved Dupin the Shedinja, Baskerville the Houndour, and Kawaiidesu Yoshiki the Eevee.

The first nightmare involved her and her castmates all having their souls stolen by looking into the back of her Shedinja, with a heavy emphasis on her having to watch them wandering around like zombies prior to her actually losing hers.

The second nightmare involved Baskerville the Houndour setting her on fire, and the sound of impending sirens ultimately waking her up.

The third nightmare involves spoilers for Dangan Ronpa because it involved Kirigiri watching Junko during the final piece of her Super Nasty Torture, when she's seated in the desk in Detention with Monobear in her lap and smiling as she rides the conveyor belt back toward the crusher; in the dream, the person in the chair kept flickering from Junko and Monobear to Naegi and Yoshiki — with Naegi wearing the same happy (or possibly insane) expression and making the same ~genki style~ hand motions that Junko did. Furthermore, right at the end, it was Naegi who got crushed. Which was understandably not pleasant at all to watch.

Since Latvia only has two Pokémon so far his nightmares featured both his starter, Marija the Mareep and his first caught Pokémon, Aiva the Hoppip. His dreams mostly toe the line between unsettlingly realistic and somewhat surreal.

His first dream featured Marija. The two of them are on a route to the next city although it seems like they've been walking for weeks and both of them are tired and hungry. Overcome with starvation Marjia shocks Latvia to paralyze him and slowly (and to Latvia, extremely graphically) starts to eat him alive. Loosely (and I do mean loosely) based off This strip.

The next features a number of Hoppip, seemingly as a stand in for various deamons of a sorcerer. Even though Latvia never sees his face in the dream, or even hears his voice or footsteps he can't shake the feeling he's been followed and does his best to escape. Out of all the Hoppip, Aiva is the only one that does not try to directly hurt him and leads him through a setting of forests, caves, hallways and so on that changes every time he goes through a doorway or entrance under the guise of trying to save him. The final door drops him in the middle of the ocean, where he drowns.

The final nightmare features both of them and surprisingly they're not out to hurt him this time. Latvia finds himself wondering through a deserted city that he can recognise as his own home. Even though his Pokémon are with him he can tell he's not in the Pokémon world anymore. It's not like there has been any kind of disaster, more like everyone simply disappeared. There are cars still on the road and breaking into houses he finds rotting remains of half eaten meals and appliances still turned on. Both Marija and Aiva seem as unsettled as he is and help him scavenge food and other supplies. Eventually he finds himself at a library but on closer inspection all the books written by Latvian authors, and all the books detailing any part of his culture or history are completely blank.

Harry's dreams involved Lisa the Togetic his starter pokemon, Cybil the Pidgeotto a gift from his daughter and Carrie the Larvesta hatched from an egg he'd received.

The first one is based on a familiar dream, he's searching a fogged town for someone. Only this time he's looking for his starter pokemon Lisa. The further he goes, the more guilt and and worry build up in him. With the knowledge that this is somehow his fault repeats itself in his head. Eventually he'll find her, but she's been fighting the entire time and is bruised and bloody. She slowly fades away as he reaches out to grab her, blood dripping from an eye.

The second dream is somehow worse. He's fighting a group shrouded in fog. Only with pokemon rather then any weapon. So far Cybil seems to be doing the most damage to the attackers and for a while it seems like they might be winning. However the group uses ...something and Cybil turns on him and starts attacking him. Him and not the pokemon. Injured and desperate he ends up shooting the bird pokemon, which falls on the ground beside him and dies.

The third dream is a break from the fighting but we're back to the endless searching for someone in a foggy town. He keeps seeing glimpses of Carrie as he searches the empty town but every time he thinks he's about to find her, he reaches a dead end or a door with a broken lock. He blames himself for this as well, knowing he should have payed more attention to her. Should have known that someone would be trying to take her away from him. In the end he finds her bound inside a familiar circle that sends him flying backwards the moment he tries to reach through it to grab her away from the fog. He hits his head on the ground and the last thing he hears are blaring sirens as he falls unconscious.

Spoilers for the mechanics of VLR's version of the Nonary Game, and also really vague things. All of Phi's dreams have been about Venus the Oddish who is actually not officially named at this point just yet, and are based around the pokedex entries It may be mistaken for a clump of weeds. If you try to yank it out of the ground, it shrieks horribly. and Its scientific name is "Oddium Wanderus." At night, it is said to walk nearly 1,000 feet on its two roots. Mainly that first one, though.

FIRST NIGHTMARE starts with Phi walking the corridors alone with the feeling that she needs to find her Oddish. Just as she starts to get really anxious about it, she hears a scream coming from the B. Garden puzzle room and rushes towards it. When she arrives, the B. Garden is no longer beautiful and calming, but filled with weeds, unlit, and generally torn to bits. The dream goes eerily quiet and Phi is left to wander the ever-expanding room until it's consumed by darkness.

SECOND NIGHTMARE is set in the style of an AB game with Venus as her opponent. A lot of it is the anxiety of being betrayed and so she mulls over her choices, hand hovering over the screen. It doesn't help that this dream remembers the previous one, and the loss of her pokemon she felt then is weighing heavily on her mind. Eventually she chooses Ally since she has nine points and Venus is close to nine points as well, and walks out of the room to find that Venus has chosen to betray her. Instead of the standard point deduction, her BP drops like a fast countdown to zero, causing her to get penalized/injected with soporil.

THIRD NIGHTMARE picks up where the second dream left off, with Phi still in a muggy, drugged state from the soporil. Like in the first nightmare, however, she's in a dark version of the B. Garden puzzle room. Weeds sprout where she drags herself, looking more and more like the head of an Oddish as she wanders. When she tries to pull them up, she comes up empty but more and more screaming can be heard. Eventually the shrieks become so loud/overwhelming that they seem to speed up, and Phi has no choice but to take a seat at the room's bench so she can get her head to stop pounding. Next to her, a tiny, almost cheerful greeting from an Oddish sounds, and she looks over to see Venus smiling up at her. She also sees the Myrmidons knife. Hazy and exhausted, but with an odd sense of hope, Phi starts to reach out towards the two, intending to pat Venus on the head. Instead, her hand closes on the hilt of the knife and the dream ends.

...Yeah, she's woken up with a wicked headache after every one of these. Did you know that mandrake, which Oddish are based on, produce anticholinergics? Did you know a common anticholinergic is tubocurarine?

Because I didn't when I chose Oddish as her starter.

Obito's night woes involved Henge the Zoroark, Tobi the dragonite, and Kiyohime the charizard.

Unfortunately for him, he's had a lot of nightmare fuel heaped on his head in the last year, and with the in of nightmares...

The first one was about Kiyohime, and actually related to the entire... budding cave phobia of his. Basically the dream consisted of being back in the cave during the glitch event, but instead of having any companions with him, he was alone, chasing the tips of flames through the darkness as the glitch pokemon tried to shred him from behind, and the only sound was the soft, almost playful chant of 'no no no' that Kiyohime will do when she's feeling particularly defiant. He woke up as rocks fell in front of him to trap him with the hungry glitches.

The second one was about Tobi, and started off pretty light and simple, with him walking through a forest with Data-ku and his teammate Rin, who were talking about something that even in the dream he wasn't quite following. Tobi was circling overhead, and everything was fine until Data-ku abruptly dissolved into a mess of numbers when Obito went to pat him on the back for some reason, and Rin lunging to help him dissolved her into ash. Everything went dark, and he couldn't even catch the remains as a hard wind started to blow everything away, and when he looked up, even Tobi was gone, leaving him entirely alone on a cold path.

The last one was about Henge. Obito was back in Konoha, Henge at his side, but something was off, people were whispering behind their hands, and as he moved deeper into the village, things started to be more and more odd, off color as he started to hear the whispers, with the village around him darkening, ash first, then damages on the buildings that got worse and worse until he was surrounded by rubble. When he turned around, there was just more of the same behind him. Turning back revealed that Henge was gone, and instead at his side was the Kyuubi, a wild grin on his face as he sat at exactly the height Henge had been at before. Obito woke when Kyuubi leaned in and hissed 'thanks'.

These feature her long time friend all the way from her first round in the game (Altaria), current round starter (Audino) and Elsie the Eevee, who originally belonged to Hughes and Winry got her from Roy.

Nightmare #1: Is a fun flight with her dragon bird at first, then they're suddenly in Amestris - in a mining town called Baschool... The girl falls down from the bird and ends up being almost buried under a collapsing mine. Featuring her Altaria, who gets kidnapped by the ones, who collapse the thing on the girl. (hello pokemon world, you really love making her memories of that place even worse in any way you can, don't you? ...also known as idk, but my mind said it had to have Baschool and Altaria somehow.)

Nightmare #2: Her Audino leaving her for no reason and Winry being unable to run after her at first. It's not like she wouldn't, but something is stopping her from going anywhere. When she can, she just can't find her anywhere. Probably finding ribbons or something else that belong to her from some place with traces of fight. [She's always scared when people leave her behind, making her to just... watch their backs as they go and it could be that they never come back.]

Nightmare #3: Maes Hughes as a part of Team Rocket's worst actions ever with his Eevee, who returned to him as soon as the man returned to the world in this nightmare. The girl will be forced to kill him with a gun to make them stop. She'll wake up before something’s - or someone’s - flames hit the Eevee.

...third one will get a post as soon as I get it done, orz.
