BUT IN ALL SERIOUSNESS HERE.

Walter's one of the people that Bert feels he can rely on here in Route and he really looks up to him for a number of reasons that all lead back to things that remind him of Reiner. He's not sure when it all started, but at some point he even started thinking for himself because of his admiration for Walter (granted it'll take a century and a half for him to get near his level but shhhh).

Really, Bert couldn't have asked for a better friendship here in Route even if they have some Terrible Things in common - that's another thing Bert actually wants to share with him at some point, but he's terrified as hell about Walter's reaction. Sure there's nothing to really be afraid of, but a combination of 'not knowing' and the dreaded 'what if scenarios' keep him from thinking about it for very long.

He doesn't want to lose the first friend he made here in Route, especially when he's already lost the ones he had back home.

Walter's also the first person Bert's been comfortable enough with to actually open up a little and poke fun at people (lookin' at your fish phobia there buddy) since the shit that went on back in his world. He still misses Reiner, but with Walter around he's been able to cope a lot better than he would've if they didn't have that fateful encounter the day Bert turned up in New Bark Town.

SHINE ON YOU DUMB FISHERMAN.
