...well okay just sort of weird, the other times he's not even sure how this happened. She's really fun to talk to about pretty much anything on his mind and she is always so goshdarned pleasant. Why can't more of his students be like this...?
He is also not entirely sure how he feels about the friend thing because... well... mages are a cagey bunch who prefer to keep people at arm's length, and that's just kind of how he's always operated. So, while he does consider her a friend, it would probably still take a while before he opened up to her about Issues. But, hey, she's closer than most people...!

ANYWAY. Kayneth isn't entirely sure how he feels about Carmen; for a while it was just "oh another person who's actually kind of clever and intelligent who I can casually match wits with" with occasional things that he looks on distastefully (come on don't defend your birdthing's noise creations)
Then he met her in person and she accidentally punched him in the feelings a few times while also being kind of dazzling and shit got confusing, especially since he's hung up on somebody that he used to know.
He doesn't like admitting to this kind of thing, though, so he's going to pretend everything is cool and firmly in that first paragraph's territory because that is what mages do.

I'm sorry, hi.

Anyway, Dist is kind of... both familiar and unfamiliar territory, in a weird sort of way. In a lot of ways, he reminds Kayneth of Proper Mages back at home, and that's really nice to have around because god does he miss Clock Tower, man, you have no idea and he is fun to talk to about magicscience and whatnot and he is always happy about that
But his world's philosophy about magic is really kind of different, which kind of throws him for a loop because the concept of combining magic and tech is pretty alien to him. I think he'd be mildly horrified by it if he'd learned about it earlier in his time in Route and his friendship with Dist, but... well, one, he's broadened his horizons along the way, two, Dist is more of an actual Friend than most of his Proper Mage colleagues, and three, he's honestly a little desperate for magey things.
...Also he still disapproves of the Rocket thing, even if his actual morals about it are kind of relaxed. It's the kind of disapproval you have when your friend really likes a show you think is kind of shit, so it's not anything serious, but it's there...

Have you ever gone to a movie expecting to enjoy it because it's shitty, and then you found yourself actually kind of unironically liking some parts of it?
That is how Kayneth feels about Blake right now. He definitely thinks Blake's beneath him and he's never not condescending to him, but he... surprisingly doesn't actually dislike him or, relatedly, think he's actually a hopeless idiot. This confuses even him, because to begin with the majority of his interactions with Blake consisted of him power tripping, as he is wont to do in order to make himself feel better in a shitty situation.
It helps that he and Blake seem to meet somewhere on the middle on a lot of things, and on the things they don't he's kind of fun to argue with. Currently, he's actually kind of surprised about the Sopranos conversation because it actually shows thought on a level he didn't expect from the guy???
...I think he might try to experiment by sending Blake some kind of entertainment he likes and seeing what results he gets from it...

It's funny how they both have the same kind of feeling of recognizing the other as a jerk but a jerk somehow worth talking to.
He should totally share something he's into with Blake. He might even get him to read a book; if he's real condescending sure that Blake is too lazy and dumb to read, he'll do it just to spite him.
