Leon on...as many of my girls as you want, actually!

Carmen, Kirigiri, possibly Ishimaru's blonde gaijin not-sister if you feel like it...

Leon on Carmen

[personal profile] struck_out 2014-02-23 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly at the start he didn't really like Carmen that much; he thought she was a nosy lady who was trying to challenge him and prove him wrong in things she (or so he thought) didn't understand. The turning point was when she brought up Murder School; he was still skeptical of her because well, he obviously would prefer if no one knows about what he did at Hope's Peak but she turned out surprisingly non-judgmental.

And let's face it, despite him being 20-21 years old he's really a child in many ways. Leon had already been dealing with a lot of his guilt internally but he hadn't been handling it well. Rather than confront the issue head on, he tried to avoid it or, worse, absolve himself of his actions back then. The fact is that he tried to run away from his problems as he was wont to do back home. It was his talk with Carmen that prompted him to rethink a few things about his life and what he actually wanted, and that's why he went to her as the only adult who knew about the situation and who offered to talk to him about it. He didn't have the maturity to handle the situation and for once, he did the wise thing and decided to seek help rather than continue on solo (and we all know how well things went the last time he tried to fix problems by himself). And he picked Carmen because like all kids he wanted to rely on someone who was older and who looked like she knew what advice to give him.

A very big plus point about Carmen is that she actually knows about the murders and yet she doesn't look down on him or write him off as a bad person. Instead she's willing to help him and the rest of the crew out. She's doesn't pull back on bringing out his flaws but yet she does so in a constructive manner that feels less preachy than what he's used to back home. Leon genuinely felt terrible about everything that had happened but he didn't really have anyone to talk to about Hope's Peak in the first few months when he arrived because while the rest of the cast were pretty forgiving and welcomed him to the house, the emotional wounds kept him from fully opening up to his classmates. He isn't one to stay angry and by now he's all but back on casual terms with all of them, but his crime and his murder still haunts him till today. There's always some...unpleasantness that lingers at the back of his mind even in his conversations with Hagakure, and it frustrates him that he can't just move on. So back in the early days of his Pokemon journey he really internalized a lot of his feelings. He was open about his anger and sadness, but he never fully addressed them nor was he willing to address them with his classmates. So Carmen was a real relief and Godsend at a time when he really needed help.

And her advice has proven to actually work. She actually helped to motivate him to change. He ran from his problems because they exposed all his weaknesses and proved that he wasn't as good a person as he was. But running away just reinforced his lack of confidence in himself, and he would never be able to find the emotional strength to overcome all the negativity from the past. Changing who he is definitely takes time, but it does give him something to focus on rather than what happened before, and it makes him feel like he's accomplishing something that will...not wipe out, but at least help him sleep better at night. Also after he took her advice to seek first to understand, then be understood he did find that he could actually hold conversations about sensitive issues without pissing off the other party. It's small victories like these that are essential to Leon boosting his self-confidence genuinely, rather than the bravado that he puts on for show.

So tl;dr, Carmen is something like a teacher to him, and he respects her not because she's an adult but because she's earned it. She's a good influence on him.

She's also hot but he'll never say that out loud.

Leon on Kirigiri

[personal profile] struck_out 2014-02-23 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
Kirigiri is really a puzzle wrapped in an enigma. He's talked to her a few times but he can't really...get a feel on the type of person she is other than the fact that she maintains a distance with people and is a very highly logical person. Leon wouldn't mind hanging out with her in group activities but leave the two of them alone and he wouldn't really know what to do. She's just this...blank slate of a person and everytime he tries to fill in the facts he ends up with zilch. He does respect her brains though and he regards her as the smartest in the class, but social-wise he's unsure on how to approach her.

But he does think she's pretty! And he'd like her to explore more girly clothes (hence the outfit he bought her for Christmas) because he thinks she has the potential to really wow the crowd. He hasn't really spoken to her in awhile because their last conversation ended in much awkwardness when it got to dead fathers and spoiler bombs, but he's always willing to give her fashion advice if she ever asks for it. And boys! He's curious to know if she has any crushes!! And if he ever finds out that she does then there's all the dates to set up and all the teasing and all the advice he'll give her on how to make a relationship work!!

So tl;dr he's OK with Kirigiri. Maybe they're not friendly friendly but things are alright between them. And girl he better see you wear that tank top this summer.

Leon on Ishimaru's blonde gaijin not-sister

[personal profile] struck_out 2014-02-23 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
If Alice hadn't been announced as Ishimaru's aneki and I sure as hell hope someone told him about this!! he'd have thought she'd be a good match for Ishimaru. They're both kinda weird but they seem to get along really well with each other. Leon was kinda glad that Alice was around in the house when Ishimaru BSOD'ed because if there was anyone who could reach out to him at that time, it'd be her.

He's not close to Alice and they're more like acquaintances but he does consider her a fun-loving free spirit (and in that aspect, he believes she's exactly what Ishimaru needs. Someone needs to get that boy to lighten up yo!). Just...he's never too sure what to say around her because she says and does the strangest things. I mean, he's one to embrace the Christmas spirit but he'd draw the line at Santa Claus. And he's noticed that like Ishimaru she doesn't really get how to carry out normal conversations so much like Kirigiri he can do group activities and chill and hang out but he'd be slightly at loss on what to do with her one-on-one.

And re:Leon shipping her and Ishimaru. Leon is a terrible shipper and yes he does pair up people and yes he was a little disappointed that Ishimaru and Mondo had adopted her. THEY WERE SO PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER.

Tl;dr to him she's the female Ishimaru that's more tolerable because she's not a stick in the ass, and he's sad his ship sunk. :C
