That is, when he doesn't flip the fuck out and start trying to beat people to death. That still bothers Blake because it came out of absolutely nowhere, as far as he knows. He's used to violence that comes from a nice, clear, immediate cause. One thing about a quiet guy is you never really know what he's thinking. He's also not real sure about this Blackwater-esque mercenary thing he's a part of, but the guy doesn't talk much about his past, either.
But since then Rude's been on the level, so he'll let it go. Magic and materia and all that have never come up, so Blake assumes he's from something like his own world. It's good to have an adult around with his head on straight, among all these kids and crazies. Can't say he doesn't wonder sometimes, though.

Okay but also, while he's exact the kind of smug, look-how-much-smarter-than-you-I-am dick that supremely chafes Blake's ass, he's also one of the closer things to a peer that Blake has around here (as thrilled as Kayneth would be to hear that). He's closer to his age and from something resembling the real world, and here that's not to be sneezed at. Hell, sometimes you just really want somebody to talk about The Sopranos with, even if he's a stuck-up bastard. Plus he's actually not that bad to talk to once you get through the look-at-me-I-know-bigger-words-than-you shit.

I just realized they are actually kind of equivalent in terms of maturity level.
He's finally getting the idea that she's not your average high schooler, though he has absolutely no idea of the scope of Silent Hill type of shit. He may not really remember the Halloween nightmare castle thing, but he has a faint, unnameable feeling that this is a girl who could stab a monster in the throat.
He's a little protective of her, too. She's just tough enough that he can definitely see her getting herself in over her head. And if that happened, Blake would beat that trouble until it's fucking crippled.
That's a high compliment.

She always looks like she knows more than she's saying, too, and Blake usually can't stand bastards like that. But she's just a kid, so he has to cut her some slack, and he doesn't hate her or anything. When it comes down to it, he hasn't decided how he feels about her yet.

Blake may not know a damn thing about how to talk to teenage girls, but he straight-up likes Tenten. She's tough and bold and not at all like what he expects a teenage girl to be (which may be mostly old stereotypes, because Blake's not real up on these things).
Like with any kid who doesn't hate him, he's protective of her, and so doubly worked up about the child soldier thing. Probably never stop getting on the poor ninja kids' case about that. Being a tough girl is cool in his book, being an assassin for a crazy warlord is not.
