You put your head in your canon and what do you get?

✭ A HEADCANON/QUESTIONS MEME ✭
Which is better than "another day older and deeper in debt".

→ Post with a list of your characters.
→ Comment to other people asking them questions about their lineup. Ask anything you can think of: questions about personal headcanon, thoughts on your CR, hypothetical situations, off-screen interactions, future plans, serious business, random crack, whatever!
→ Respond to the questions you receive!
→ LEARN NEW THINGS ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE'S CHARACTERS THAT YOU NEVER KNEW BEFORE.
→ Discover things your characters have in common and forge excellent CR and shenanigans accordingly.
→ Repeat steps 2-5 forever.

for all three of them because why not: activities they enjoy but feel are a waste of time in spite of this, and what do they do in order to recharge when feeling drained?

All Three On: Enjoyed, Waste-Of-Time Activities

[personal profile] freshprints 2014-03-21 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Carmen:
Okay, this is something that's been mentioned maybe once or twice in complete noodle-incident glory in Route threads, but — the thing about Carmen and "activities she enjoys" is that if she enjoys them, she doesn't tend to feel like they're a waste of time at all because she's very much a live-in-the-moment, carpe diem kind of person and if it's engaging her in some way for some reason, she doesn't consider that invaluable even if it's unorthodox.

THAT SAID.

Quite possibly the one and only exception to this is the fact that she is secretly addicted to really shitty reality shows. We're talking like the Route equivalents of Jerry Springer and Jersey Shore — the kind of TV that melts your brain and you cannot for the life of you justify watching except to melt your brain, despair for humanity, and consume popcorn like your life depends on it.

And the best part is that she knows how incredibly shitty these shows are but she keeps watching them anyway — and, notably, won't let Zack watch them with her because she is determined to protect him from the shitty programming, which has led to Top Secret Superspy Zack covertly trying to figure out what those particular shows are about, with very little success.

(She also watches semi-practical shows like Iron Chef Kanto and Unova's Next Top Model and Project Runway: Hoenn, which she concedes are at least interesting in terms of watching people being good at the things they're good at; there is no justifying Vermilion Shore, though.)

Parker:
Parker is also a hard one to answer this question for, but for a completely different (yet equally stupid) reason: Parker actually...doesn't know how to have fun, canonically. There's an entire episode in season five about her quest to learn to like stuff, even, and how it takes her quite awhile before she seems to get it, so.

In Route she's gotten a little better about things, but for Parker, "enjoy" and "waste of time" are pretty mutually exclusive (like with Carmen) for the opposite reason as it was for Carmen — if Parker thinks something is a waste of time, she won't enjoy it because it's wasting her time with no appreciable value to it.

I think the closest she might come to this is planning how to rob the jewelry stores in Goldenrod (or robbing anything else, really) — she enjoys it because she's good at it, but it's technically a "waste of time" because she's been given the "we don't steal things, Alice-san" lecture enough times now that she generally won't break the law nearly as much as she cheerfully would back home.

(Late in Season 5 we also see her sort of absently building card houses so I guess you could call that a time-waster; it's more that she likes having something to fidget with than it is that she "enjoys" it, but there's that also.)

Kirigiri:
And now, the easiest one of the bunch: honestly, I think Kirigiri has a secret penchant for a) people-watching and b) writing little vignettes in a paper journal that nobody knows about. I don't think the latter is something she'd ever want to make public in any capacity, coming from a class with both an SHSL Doujin Artist and an SHSL Literary Girl, but I think she tries to justify the people-watching as "oh, no, I'm emulating Sherlock Holmes, I'm learning to read people and spot clues and improve my observational skills" blah blah blah, when really it's just that she kind of likes to sit around watching people and thinking about who they might be and what their lives might be like.

Also she sometimes writes really shitty self-gratifying short stories that again, she will never show anyone but it's your traditional adolescent-girl-on-fanfiction-dot-net bullshit. And super embarrassing.

All Three On: How They Recharge When Feeling Drained

[personal profile] freshprints 2014-03-21 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Carmen:
I seriously feel like I just answered this one recently but since I can't seem to find it — Carmen tends to be the poster child for "tonight we're going hard", and then when we have stopped going hard, she just wipes out. At least twice now in Route, she's pulled an outrageously brutal travel blitzkrieg, and immediately afterwards she's found the nearest soft horizontal surface and just faceplanted into it, never to move for the next ~18 hours. And that's generally pretty standard for her, albeit in a slightly less intense capacity: she'll be incredibly active in a given burst, and then she'll take a couple days and just kind of lounge around in bed all day, read some good books, watch shitty TV, play Trivial Pursuit with Zack, order in food and eat whenever she wants, and generally just take things easy until she's bored enough that she's ready to get up and go again.

I've always found that kind of interesting because obviously, the show gives the impression that she's out there stealing stuff like two or three times a week, but in reality she actually has a lot of downtime? If you figure that each season of the show is about ten episodes and each season spans a year, that's less than one crime a month. Plus she's got an entire criminal empire to run, a legitimate corporate empire to run, books to read, art to appreciate, operas to attend. Her life isn't all stealing all the time; she's pretty Renaissance in her activities, and her life in Route tends to reflect that.

Parker:
She plugs herself into the wall.

NO I'M JUST KIDDING OKAY

The actual answer, though, is...almost as weird, and it's that she goes and sleeps in an airvent or an elevator shaft. Parker's really kind of weird and utilitarian that way; as mentioned earlier, she doesn't really get leisure activities or how to have fun, because the only thing she really knows how to do is work, which is stealing. So if she's not working, she's sleeping — generally speaking.

She does, however, like to watch movies and eat cereal and ice cream and fortune cookies, so there's that.

Kirigiri:
I think she probably listens to music? Kirigiri, I think, is an introvert in the sense that she tends to get a little exhausted when she's in a social situation for too long (she finds it draining), so her idea of recharging is going off by herself someplace where it's quiet and safe, plugging into a pair of headphones, and just kind of zoning out for awhile until she feels a little more up to stuff again.

Also, coffee. Coffee. Sometimes when she's feeling down she will sneak chocolate and maybe caramel and possibly some whipped cream into her coffee (thus preventing Kuzuryuu from ever drinking it BWAHAHAHA), but she'll only do that when she's got it in a cup with a lid so nobody knows what she's actually drinking.
