As for your first question, you get used to it, when it's the only option you get here. There's no way home, you might the only one from your world here, and if you decide to travel alone, they're your only company for days or weeks on the routes between the cities. That, and there are wild Pokemon attacking you two on the route, you probably don't want to fight them by yourself.
[Well, admittedly she wouldn't have gotten used to living or working with Pokemon so fast, if she hadn't woken up in Team Rocket HQ on her first day. ...And even then she really missed her magical girl powers a lot, but anyway.]
