Anyone who enjoys hearing him ramble about Elicia is probably a good person in Hughes' books. He doesn't really know Ryner that well, but he does think the guy seems perfectly nice. He's an alright judge of character, and so he does think Ryner is a genuine person, and he counts Ryner as someone he wouldn't mind talking to more and getting to know better.
