Nerds of Route, unite! (But non-nerds are welcome, too)

Reid is determined to figure out the rules behind Route and to get a leg up on criminals. This means that he has a lot of research going on at once; at the moment, the main projects are his survey (speaking of, sorry I haven't kept up with tags on it, but I've been reading all the replies and I'm making a write up of Reid's notes), Ghost- and Psychic-type Pokemon and how their powers can be defended from, and possibly finding a way to create the equipment he needs to get into the nitty-gritty of Pokemon biolody. (And by that, I mean that he might try dragging in fellow engineers and make a makeshift MRI to help with his Pokemon research.)

What does this mean for everyone else? Well, lots of things! If you're playing a nerdy character or one who just wants to help, Reid would really like some helping hands. So far, a bunch of people are pitching in for the survey stuff, and Reid and Albert are the main guys researching flora/fauna and trying to make useful things out of them. Anyone can offer Reid help, anecdotes about weird goings-on in Johto/Kanto, notes on Pokemon he hasn't encountered yet, or even just lend him a Pokemon he hasn't seen so he can get a good look at them.

Is your character not the nerdy type and more the 'take other people's stuff' type? That works too! So far, Reid hasn't made it a secret that he's doing a lot of research into this world, and seeing as he's pretty thoroughly with the 'good guys', anyone can make the leap of logic to guess that he might try cooking something up to put a wrench in Team Rocket. Therefore, I'm totally up for a plot that involves him being threatened, attacked, or stolen from to get at his notes or something. Really, it'd be totally IC, since the kid has some weird ability to attract abuse like nothing else.

So if you want a piece of this general player plot or you have suggestions or something, please tell me right here or use a PM. There's no specific schedule or anything big that has to immediately happen, so there's a lot of room for creativity. Go wild!

Kayneth has been sort of trying to get some kind of initiative together for this, so he'd definitely be interested in this... right now he's mostly dicking around in the Ruins of Alph and checking out Unown and shit, so that could probably come up...!

Sion already has a keen interested in Reid, from what he's seen. The guy's plainly extremely talented and Sion has things he's looking into that could benefit from that kind of talent.

Which is to say, hi we should plot sometime. :)

Apollo didn't fill out the survey because he can't read and listening to the text reader for something that long annoys him, and he hasn't responded to the various Science! posts because he doesn't get what's going on/they don't sound interesting/he's not a nerd, buuuut he could fit in with this. He can "talk" to Pokémon and ask them things, and he's well on his way to knowing what all the edible and medicinal plants are here, both for humans and Pokémon. Once spring comes he'll be trying to plant various Berries and stuff from the PokéMarts, so he'll be a source of hands-on knowledge about that stuff, including the nightmare of trying to grow the Sitrus Berry he won from the Bug-Catching Contest, which according to the mods is from a warmer climate and will be hard to take care of.

So just leaving this out here even though I have no idea how to get him to talk about this stuff with Reid.

Reid has stumbled around the Ruins a little, but since he's only one person, he's been forced to prioritize his other projects over checking it out too thoroughly. Reid would be glad to put Kayneth's notes on the Ruins together with his more general notes about the world and trends. If it's possible, Reid might set up a document on the network that he and the people who're helping can access and edit together.

Well, I can definitely see him managing to be worked into the plot. Reid is mainly dealing with the mental and emotional effects of Pokemon/the world that shouldn't happen, whereas Albert's been dealing with the stuff in the physical realm. You should probably talk to Alex about Apollo and Albert somehow talking about the berries, because I think the nerd duo would find that very useful. :3

Reid's pretty set for talking to the Pokemon, though, because he's friends with Fluttershy and has a psychic Pokemon who's happy to translate for him.

He's trying learn details about the legendary pokemon. Primarily/ostensibly to be able to better prevent/deal with a situation like what happened with the Rocket plot earlier this year, but being prepared to know what to do to get on a legendary's good terms should he ever encounter one again is up there, too.

That, and he also has a plan in the very, very early stages to potentially try to strike back against Team Rocket from a direction no one's really used before, and which will eventually require recruiting people with considerable technical knowledge (hacking, security devices, possibly even modern weapons and especially defending from such, etc) to assist with if it actually goes anywhere.

Obviously there are plenty of uses he could put a profiler with a flawless memory to on either/both of these.

Reid doesn't. His mun totally does, though. Reid says that Albert should blame the mun.

And yes. Yes, we can. We can put all the other various medical devices Reid builds in the basement too. It will be made of Pokemon and science.

I picture them sneaking out in the dead of night like college guys rushing a fraternity to appropriate big chunks of helpful technology from Pokemon Lab dumpsters and hauling it back to the Treehouse so they can build it into a NASA-esque control center of science awesome.

I can definitely see how Reid could be useful. Reid would be totally up for helping, especially if they were in the same town. You want to talk more when Sion feels comfortable enough with Reid to actually ask for help?

Ffff I could totally see them doing that. Technically stealing, but who cares when SCIENCE is being benefited? Reid's lucky for that eidetic memory, or else he totally wouldn't remember how to put half this stuff together.

Oh, Sion's already plenty interested in Reid, he's just trying to figure out how to pique Reid's interest in matters. XD But he's been keeping an eye on Reid's network posts ever since the PILES OF BOOKS one and looking for a good opportunity/angle to approach from. :3

I mean yes they still might have to run like the blazes from Officer Jenny but it's not technically illegal.

Reid needs to make a little more headway and feel like he's on his feet before he'd agree to actively work on anything else, but he'd be happy to advise, especially for the Team Rocket thing. Sion might need to wait until Reid's gone to Goldenrod (and probably rented a place and settled because he's a nesty person) before he asks for more, but afterwards, Reid will be all over helping out.

Reid is totally going to be donating time to getting good electric- and ice-type Pokemon to help out with the MRI though. And one of every other type because goddamn he must know how their strengths and weaknesses work. There will be many more creatures than simple Shuckle on this farm of justice. B)

If all goes according to plan (which it rarely does, but whatever), Albert's going to decide pretty quickly that attempting to do SCIENCE!! out of a hotel room is really kind of unfeasible in the long run and he's getting kind of sick of Nurse Joy constantly hassling him for commandeering the equipment at the Pokemon Center, so hopefully I'll be able to have him over in Kanto and at least getting some preliminary stuff organized within three or four weeks.

And then people can just come visit him ALL THE TIME and show up for holidays and sleep on his couches and it will be awesome.

Also he's getting a hypnodeer. THERE WILL BE HYPNODEER SHENANIGANS, SO HELP ME GOD.

Yeah, that could work out pretty well. He'll be looking into other stuff, of course, but this has been his big project as of late, so!

Basically. But if he's willing to pool his notes together with other intellectuals so everyone can read and add to it, he can get in on the communal document thing that we're talking about one thread up.

Reid is probably going to want to settle somewhere too, since stability and some semblance of routine is actually pretty important to him. He's probably going to end up near Goldenrod or Saffron since he's most familiar with cities.

Regardless, Reid will be right up there, bugging Albert. Because he's probably not going to have room for an MRI/FMRI at his place, so it's totes going in Albert's basement. Hope you like Reid, Albert, 'cuz you'll see a lot of him. xD

YES, SEE. GOOD BOY. SENSIBLE BOY. THIS IS WHY ALBERT LIKES HIM. Cities are infinitely superior to places that are not cities.

I'm guessing Albert will probably end up in either Saffron or Celadon, though I'm growing kind of partial to Saffron just because then he's only a train ride away from Johto and that's kind of canon, to be close but not constantly present and to generally show up like a boss every time the day needs to be saved.

Also then people can hop the Midnight Express en masse and come to harass him on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Also someone should go catch the smooch-friendly hypnodeer running around the Ruins of Alph just to perpetuate the terrible joke even further.

Oh, he'll be happy to share information... at least to an extent. There's some things he may withhold until he can properly investigate him, but it likely wouldn't be anything most the researchers are interested in, anyway.

He will certainly keep an eye on Reid though, because boy does he seem like a good resource. :3

Yo, I just realized something: Reid is like a insanely genius combination of younger!Coop and younger!Albert. Weird.

If Albert settles in Saffron, Reid will probably settle there too, mostly because he doesn't really have a preference and it'd make it infinitely easier to work together if they lived in the same city. (Although unfortunately, it'd be harder to cover up the fact he has things like a horribly fucked kneecap and terrible migraines if they live close together. Reid doesn't like talking about things like that. :< )

What is up with that deer anyway? I have no idea how that joke started. xD
