No worries!

Kimblee was actually surprisingly okay with his prison time; he relates everything to Equivalent Exchange and ridiculous physics, even when it doesn't logically apply for most people, and as such he's big on taking consequences for one's actions/everything having some sort of payoff in the end, be it positive or negative. He's always been incredibly high functioning and as such he knew that acting out in the way that he did in Ishval would likely end terribly; at the same time, the Stone seems to have lowered his inhibitions greatly and he spent the latter half of the Ishval campaign completely and utterly fucked out of his mind, so he wasn't in a lucid enough mental state to care. He wouldn't have done it otherwise, but at the same time, he doesn't regret doing it, either; it was one of the few times in his life that he actually acted on his own, with no one else pushing him around and telling him what to do/what not to do - it's something he chose for himself, and as such he doesn't regret anything about what landed him in prison.

When it comes to the actual prison term, he was pretty okay in general; he doesn't seem bothered in canon by it at all, and by the end he seemed pretty used to the isolation. It did mess him up worse than he thinks it did - he seems to have problems later on in the critical-thinking areas of life, and his decision-making and assessment skills are very poor compared to how they were in Ishval, where he was expected to lead groups of soldiers in a halfway competent manner. (Admittedly, even then he didn't do it well, but he was generally less of a disorganized, chaotic mess in dealing with them, as he was in North City and Briggs.) The time he spent in there itself is something he doesn't care to discuss in much detail because it wasn't exactly his idea of a good time, but in general he's pretty okay with it and isn't bothered by it the way he probably should be.

As for GLaDOS, that question is just getting a big fat [REDACTED] in response, but in all blunt honesty she's a bit conflicted regarding it. In some ways she can see where a challenge is nice, and the more disobedient ones like Chell did present a large challenge, which she appreciated - constant testing does wear thin after a while, as was shown in Portal 2, and doing the same thing over and over again isn't nearly as satisfying as coming up with new and creative ways to kill the test subjects do science. However, she prefers to adhere to order and rules far more than she enjoys the challenge; she likes to be in control more than anything, and she doesn't like feeling like someone is taking her agency away from her - so whenever things are not going as planned and her control slips, she tends to freak right the fuck out and take it out on everyone around her.

So in some ways she does like Chell and those that may have been somewhat like her in the past; in others, she hates them entirely. A bit of a love/hate thing, really. And don't get her started on Wheatley.

In Ishbal, is there anything Kimblee would have done differently? Not because he regrets it, but because he thought of better methods.

GLaDOS. Who is your favorite alternate personality core?

Honestly, no. Before the end of his run in canon, he would have said that he would have gone down personally and ensured there were no survivors of his initial strike in the Kanda district, which would have ensured that he found and killed Scar and his brother, negating that entire front in the fight between humanity and the Homunculi; at the same time, that would have basically made it such that he never got out of prison in the first place (as he was dragged out by Envy to go hunt down Scar and Dr Marcoh) and may have ensured a Homunculus victory, which is something he decided, in the end, that he didn't want. Again, he's a major believer in "everything for a reason," and as far as Ishval goes, everything seems to have sorted itself out.

And in terms of interacting with them directly, GLaDOS likes the morality core. Silent and poorly-adhered! :|

pffft. Kimblee believes in destiny then? I can kinda see that.

GLaDOS... I'll just facepalm at you. No more questions~
explosivecombat: (And what have we here?)

[personal profile] explosivecombat 2013-02-10 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Not exactly. Believing in destiny or fate is believing that things cannot be changed at all, which isn't quite it; at the same time, he definitely does believe that all things - life, the world in general - and not just alchemy adhere to Equivalent Exchange. If something happens, it's because it was caused by another force, even if you aren't necessarily aware of the force itself. It's less that he believes in destiny/fate and more that he believes in some sort of large and overly-complicated butterfly effect.

OH! I see. Yeah I can see that actually. So he believes in the chain of all things affect everything.
explosivecombat: (Don't worry; it's nothing personal)

That's it, yeah! He says at some point in canon that he does believe the human element has a large effect on things; believing in predestined fate would remove the possibility for change that he believes humans have the power to wield. He's different from his 2003 anime counterpart in that regard; the 2003 version is of the belief that everyone is worthless and no one's lives really impact anything as far as the world goes, so predetermination would likely be more in line with his beliefs there, but the philosophies behind the different characterizations are completely different.

So true x.x I did him both ways actually, even when I called halt after the 03 anime for a while on my reading. I like actually having a better reason for that impression now.

I tend to just overthink his life philosophies horribly, so. orz

Nothing wrong with that you know.
