A Wild Headcanon Meme Appears!

✭ A HEADCANON/QUESTIONS MEME ✭
Because there's never a wrong time for headcanon.

→ Post with a list of your characters.
→ Comment to other people asking them questions about their lineup. Ask anything you can think of: questions about personal headcanon, thoughts on your CR, hypothetical situations, off-screen interactions, future plans, serious business, random crack, whatever!
→ Respond to the questions you receive!
→ LEARN NEW THINGS ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE'S CHARACTERS THAT YOU NEVER KNEW BEFORE.
→ Discover things your characters have in common and forge excellent CR and shenanigans accordingly.
→ Repeat steps 2-5 forever.
Holy Voltorbs.

For Shaun: What does he miss most about his dad? What does he miss most about Jason? (DON'T MIND ME, just rollin' on in here with depressing questions. :I)

For Lee: What made him become a history professor? What was his area of specialization and/or interest?

Mostly, the things that Shaun misses about his dad are things that Ethan hadn't done since Jason died anyway. and also partly headcanon but shhhhh He and Jason used to stand on stepstools in the bathroom sometimes on the weekends, and Ethan would let them "shave" with him.
Also playing airplane. Shaun really misses how tall he felt sitting on his dad's shoulders.
He misses a lot of little things, too. He misses getting tucked in at night, he misses the sound of his dad's voice and the way that his dad would ruffle his hair, he misses playing with him in the park. Now that his dad is gone, he regrets how much time he spent watching TV while he was at his dad's and just waiting for when he got to go back to his mom on the weekends. Hindsight is 20/20.

As for what he misses about Jason... FUNNY YOU SHOULD ASK THAT SINCE THE THREE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF JASON'S DEATH IS SATURDAY He was young enough when Jason died, and enough time has passed, that it's not that he doesn't miss Jason, but he's gotten used to being an only child. He misses sharing a bunkbed with him, and he misses beating him in pokemon battles on the gameboy when they both should have been asleep, the Game Link cable stretching from Jason's bunk to his.

Broadly? His area of specialization is US History. Growing up in Macon, aka the Heart of Georgia, he was kind of surrounded by Civil War history (Macon was the official arsenal of the Confederacy), and he just sort of...took an interest in it. He had a falling out with his parents when he decided to continue studying history and become a professor, because being the older Everett child they had been expecting him to take over managing the pharmacy in their waning years. (In a way, he kind of did, but not in the way any of them had thought or hoped.) He taught at UGA for six years before...events, and in that time he was probably asked to teach a lot of basic, lower-level history classes that were general US History. His own degree is in History with a focus on 19th century America and the American Civil War, and he wrote his doctoral thesis on Macon in the Civil War.

Lee- Before...everything, did you want to have children with your wife?
handydecisions: (02 and if I never told you)

He did. He really did - he wanted to be settled down with a family of his own and everything, but his wife had a job that meant she was always traveling, and she didn't want to give that up for a job closer to home. Children were one of the many sore points in their marriage, particularly near the end.

And then he came home early one day sick from the university and found out why.

If Shaun got the chance to spend one day with his dad, what would they do?

Assuming the obvious and immediate hugs and I love yous and I missed yous are out of the way:

Shaun would spend the day going on and on about what all he's been up to, and letting his dad know that he's okay, and just spending time together. He would introduce his dad to his team, and show him his hat and his badge and tell him he's going to be the very best trainer ever, and he's going to make him proud. And then he would make his dad stay with him until he fell asleep, when it was finally bedtime. Tell me a story, read me a book, do this, do that, don't leave the room.

And then he would be sad and dejected the next day when his dad was gone again.

Lee's favorite Civil War general?
handydecisions: (05 I'm here for you)

[personal profile] handydecisions 2013-05-30 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Joshua Chamberlain is a personal favorite, and one that he particularly liked to talk about with his students under the banner of "so you think professors are all talk and no action". He also comes down in favor of Benjamin Butler, though he was capable of staying neutral on the subject when teaching because of the controversy in the South surrounding him.

As far as non-generals go, he read the hell out of William Henry Singleton's memoir at least once a year.

He was a favorite with most of his students, although his classes had a somewhat high turnover rate of white kids who didn't realize they were going to be taking Civil War History from an African-American professor until the first day of class.
