If Yusuke had to pick one Pokemon to correspond with each of his friends, which Pokemon would he pair up with each friend and why?

Assume all Pokemon from all Gens are fair game, not just the ones available in Route.

PFFF, Gogoat!Genkai. I don't know if it's the alliteration or the mental image or just a combination of the two, but that made my entire week.

SO THIS TOOK QUITE A BIT OF TIME FOR ME TO FIGURE OUT, mostly because, oh god, there are so many Pokemon now (and also I am just really slow-moving lately - IN CASE ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHICH POKEMON CORRESPONDS WITH ME, it is definitely Slowpoke). So yeah, sorry for the delay! Here it goes:

Keiko would be a member of the Teddiursa line, because Teddiursa is the sort of cutesy thing that Yusuke would think Keiko would like, and also because naming something that goes from adorable and harmless-looking to a BIG, SCARY BEAR WITH SHOULDER PADS after her would seem extremely appropriate to him. Alternatively, something that can use one of the "slap" moves would also work, meaning Keiko could end up being anything from a Teddiursa to a Clefairy to... a Poliwrath. I'm going to go with Teddiursa just for the purpose of the meme, but if Keiko the Poliwrath actually becomes a thing, consider yourself to have been warned ahead of time. Yusuke Urameshi, Most Romantic Boyfriend Ever.

For Kuwabara... if Yusuke were at all inclined to be flattering where Kuwabara is concerned, he would probably name a Gallade after him, just because of the Psychic/Fighting typing and the swords and the association with ~honor and gentlemanliness~. Alas, he is a massive jerk, so Kuwabara would instead be a Granbull! Seriously, I think if you asked Yusuke what kind of animal Kuwabara reminds him of, it would most likely be a "big, dumb puppy", just because he is so earnest and loyal and JUST A REALLY GREAT FRIEND, even if he isn't necessarily the brightest. He is also ugly, which is why Yusuke would choose Granbull over any of the other dog Pokemon; in case anyone was starting to think his reasoning behind this choice was totally based in feelings of good will, it turns out, in a shocking turn of events, that it is not. Sorry, Kuwabara. :I

It would be too obvious to name one of the fox Pokemon after Kurama, and besides, I think Yusuke associates Kurama more with his arsenal of deadly plants than he does with Youko. THEREFORE, the honor of being named after Kurama would go to Roserade, because... because roses. Which, I guess, is kind of a boring answer, but unlike the case with Kuwabara, Yusuke actually respects Kurama enough not to use his name for something potentially insulting, such as... I dunno, Vileplume. Or Carnivine, which is hideous (or ugly-cute, if you're like me and you actually like Carnivine - quit hatin', Yusuke). So yeah. ROSERADE IT IS.

As for Hiei, Yusuke would name a Murkrow after him! It might not be able to light you on fire or cut you with a sword, but it's tiny and pointy and dark and flies around a whole lot, a description which - in Yusuke's humble opinion - fits Hiei perfectly. Yusuke would also suspect that naming anything after Hiei, much less a little bird, would really piss him off, and let's face it, for Yusuke, that would only be a perk. Because he's not very smart. HEH HEH HEH.

Genkai would be a Meditite! Meditite is small and a Fighting/Psychic type and its little meditation pose would totally remind him of the days spent busting his ass in Grandma's Evil Bootcamp, and if the Meditite in question were inclined towards roundhouse kicking him in the head every time he did or said something stupid, that would only strengthen the association. (As an aside, I think Genkai is one of the people from home whom Yusuke misses most. GRANDMA. :C)

Botan would be a Chatot, because she's chatty and Chatot's chatty and it works! Yusuke's sure that if Botan could sit on his shoulder and offer her (unsolicited) opinion on everything he does, she totally would. SIGH.

And finally, there's Koenma, who would probably be a Togepi, since it's the only baby Pokemon that looks like it's in diapers. Yusuke's just gotta get that dig in at Koenma's toddler form, what can I say.

... aaand DONE! I only counted members of the main / supporting cast whom Yusuke is shown interacting with a lot, but if you want to know about any other characters, feel free to mention them! I can also answer any other headcanon-y questions about Yusuke, if you have them; I am always up for burying people under my Fictional Character Opinions. o7
