actually, now I am curious how your headcanon goes for Reno's roots? SORRY I SHOULD BE ASKING YOU PITCH QUESTIONS but I just can't help myself when FFVII gets mentioned aahhhh

UH. OKAY. I HAD AN RP SPOUSE AT THE LAST JOURNAL GAME I WAS IN. (Where hilariously enough I played Reno)

OKAY HERE GOES. PREPARE FOR SOME TEAL DEERS.

He's from Junon, mid-lower tier Junon to be specific he was one of... nine kids and while there was certainly plenty of love there wasn't always much of anything else to go around but my god his mom cooked for an army and didn't turn people away if they were hungry. His dad worked mostly, an engineer who did stuff to maintain the structure of the city and Reno learned to climb like a boss from him.

His grandmother used to be part of the army of secretaries for ShinRa (and had a thing with Vincent's dad, there's Valentine flatwear tucked in the house that she stole when he tossed her aside. She also kind of didn't take shit from the Turks back then and returned their paperwork to them all the time... but also gave them cookies and fruit baskets so it was even. She'd stabbed Reno with a fork at the dinner table more than once when he was being a shit.) and she kind of gave him the incentive to toddle off to Midgar to find a job that wasn't... what was in Junon.

He did a lot of shitty jobs, mostly washing dishes and playing bouncer/bartender in various places under the plate. (Rude first saw him when he broke a guy's hand for coping a feel and attempting to pick him up as a prostitute. BEST FIRST IMPRESSION NEVER.) And eventually he pretty much went "screw this" and... snuck in to the ShinRa building through the air vents/climbing the outside and showed up at one of the SOLDIER training things.

Without shoes because he'd needed to use them to prop things open.

THey told him to go away and threw him out about a dozen times, he was just some crazy-ass kid who had terrible diction and no respect for anything.

But he showed up to one that Veld was at and he was like "No. Make the kid run the obstacle course with you meatheads. If you're slower than him you have to do laps. B|" and...

well he beat the record. Barefoot.

Veld bought him breakfast the next morning and recruited him. 8D

He never properly told his mom and grandma what he did, but they knew and pretty much adopted the whole lot of the Turks in to the massive family because pfff they're Reno's family and you don't leave family behind or in need. (and by massive family I mean there's about... 30+ people at "direct family only" events.)

Oh man I love this version too because you actually included family! So many versions of his backstory don't really include them too much (or at all). Also neat since you set him in Junon and not in Midgar, where he tends to originate from in many histories.

And aahhh the SOLDIER mention is fantastic! He would be crazy enough to just straight up show up and tell them he's staying until they removed him by force.

I felt that Junon worked better for how old he is and the whole... speech patten thing.

Midgar isn't that old, it's construction began only about a year before Sephiroth was born and the plate itself didn't begin until about 15 yeas after that. It was still being built in Crisis Core as well.

Oh man, something I didn't know, hmm. Though wasn't the Shinra electric company already established in Midgar by the time Sephiroth was born? I mean... I suppose it makes sense if Midgar was still being built around the company, basically. I've been trying to find a decent chronology of FFVII events, but Square did a lot of backtracking and mucked up lots of things haha.

Midgar was a set of eight different cities/towns to begin with that became the slums after the city got massive. Junon seems to be an older established city and they do have a presence there as well as a lot of structure.

I headcanon that Junon was a kind of... testing ground for plate construction techiques personally.
