Leon is cool. Walter's learned his way around a lot of the "modern" world thus far, and he can hold everyday conversations without feeling lost or losing things in translation, but there's still a big gulf when it comes to getting close to people. Leon is the person with whom that gulf is the shortest, not counting people from cultural backgrounds more like Walter's - so many things still mystify him about Leon's worldview and experiences and general state of existence, but they've talked freely about some really heavy stuff, and after that the cultural differences don't seem quite as important.
Which isn't to say it's not still an obstacle; there's some things Walter wouldn't talk about with Leon because he gets the feeling Leon simply wouldn't understand on a fundamental level. (Mostly military-type things. Shooting people and feeding your spirit to demons and whatnot, y'know.) But he's glad he stumbled across someone he can do some mutual unloading with on such fantastic and heartening topics as being dead (or so he thinks). He still shakes his head at some things about Leon, and...he's honestly not completely sure whether they could have a normal hang-out without minor personality conflicts getting in the way, but he definitely trusts him with realtalk and tries to be trustworthy and receptive to the same.
