Okay this is legitimately going to sound kind of horrible at first but in the grand scheme of things, she really doesn't have a very well-defined opinion of Walter? And that's less a "she doesn't give a fuck" thing as it is just that she hasn't quite nailed down what makes Walter tick yet, if that makes sense. A lot of what Kirigiri does is to try to piece together a sort of bigger picture of the world from the people she sees operating within it, and so I think in a way Walter reads as kind of an enigma to her because I sometimes get the sense that Walter himself is trying to figure out where he fits in with the grand scheme of the world, too. He spends a lot of time, in her perception, trying to see how other people think, and that reads to her as someone who doesn't really know what he thinks, and so he's casting around for opinions as a way of trying to find his own footing on things. Which, in a way, makes him come off as sort of...

Like, if the world were a puzzle, there are some people that Kirigiri can see clearly as the border pieces — defined edges and beliefs, it's really obvious who they fit with and who they don't, and so on. Then there are some that she can kind of make educated guesses about where they go, based on the attributes she sees in them and what she's already been able to work out of the big picture as a whole. But then there's a handful that she doesn't quite know where they connect yet, despite being able to see that it looks like there's half a seagull and maybe the black border of something in them, so she's got to just kind of wait and see what happens with them. And that latter type, I think, is Walter.

And then of course the fact that he mailed her a Bloober isn't really helping, either. c:
