Joshua Kiryu | The World Ends With You

[Anyone in Goldenrod today might notice a new face hanging around, walking quietly down the street with a Shuppet hovering a few inches above his shoulder. For someone who has just woken up in a city that most certainly is not Shibuya, he seems surprisingly calm about the entire situation. In fact, his expression is rather intrigued as he stops near the Pokemon Center with his hin resting in one hand, 'hmmm'ing to himself.]

This does toss a wrench into things, doesn't it?

[He seems to be talking to the Shuppet, who nods eagerly at first...then shakes her head slowly, looking at the boy and tilting her head far to the side.]

It's certainly an issue. But it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out. You'll help me, I'm sure?

[More eager nodding! And that causes Joshua to smile, reaching up to pet the side of the Shuppet's face.]

You're not Noise, that much is certain. Yet I can control you just as easily as if you were. Perhaps there is a reason for that.

[...Kay, looks like we're just. Talking to ourselves.]

[Oh look, it's some redheaded loser over there. Most people would vanish in this crowded city, but it's hard to miss him, especially considering who he is.

And what he's doing, which is obviously working himself up. A cat-creature is on his shoulder, and pointing to someone. Neku nods, swallowing heavily as the cat jumps down and runs over to the person, demanding attention. The target coo's and kneels to pet her-

-only for Neku to bump them, apologizing and walking on. If someone was watching HIM specifically it's clear that a ball on their belt is now gone. Eventually the cat returns to him as he slips his goods in a pocket and walks on, talking softly to his companion.]

[Oh, don't worry, Joshua spots Neku without really having to try too hard. Once he does, he doesn't dare look away, watching him from afar as the scene plays out.

He stole that. He stole something.

Joshua's eyebrows raise slightly as his hand slows where he's petting the Shuppet before dropping down to his side. Well, Neku seems to be coming his way, so he remains standing off to the side as he watches the boy approach, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning against the outside wall of the Pokemon Center.

Once he's near enough, he speaks up with a soft laugh, his eyes falling closed.]

My, I'm surprised at you. Didn't your parents raise you better than that?

[scratchitti]

[Neku freezes when spoken to.

He was spotted. Fuck FUCK. Okay, what was he told to do first... deny]

I dunno what you're talking about.

[playedalive]

[Josh tips his head to the side, opening his eyes again to watch Neku curiously.]

Actually, you just stole that individual's item and put it in your pocket.

I mean, you could always show me that your pockets are empty. Then I'd have no choice but to trust you're telling me the truth.

Of course I have a pokeball in my pocket. Everyone has pokeballs on them. Keep your nose outta it.

What's this fascination with theft all of a sudden, Neku? Are you that desperate for money?

[Like he knows there's this one Reaper who thinks it's funny to make the Players wear certain clothes to get past a wall, but...he didn't think you were THAT broke.]

[OH MAN HE'S MADE *AND* ID'D, NOPE NOPE NOPE]

[...Well this is interesting.]

...Oh? Why wouldn't I know your name?

We're Partners, aren't we? I'd be a rather lousy one if I didn't know what your name was.

[Oh... is he another Rocket? Did Schuldig just not TELL him he had a assigned partner now?]

Why didn't you just TELL me that?

I assumed I wouldn't have to.

Though it would appear that your long-term memory loss has become chronic now.

[Basically did you hit your head when you fell out of Shibuya or something.]

[Had Schuldig told him that too? Only a few people new he had memory loss after all...]

No one told me I was gonna have a partner, so stop being a smart ass about it.

...Is that so?

[Josh blinks slowly, and for a split second his expression flickers from one of silent knowing to confusion. It's only there for a moment before his expression is back to normal.]

Well tell me something. How is it that you have managed to survive so long without being Erased without a Partner?

[He knows there aren't Noise here. He's not talking about this place.]
