[He reaches down and peels back Totodile's lip, so Dipper can see where he's holding on. The teeth aren't breaking skin, and in fact barely denting it]

He's actually really soft-mouthed!

[Said in reference to the Deerling, who is peeking out nervously from behind her trainer now.]

[He holds the Totodile out to the poor Deerling, and at least he does make some appropriate sounding gurgles. Sorry deer frand ; 3;]

[There's a brief moment of hesitation before she bleats softly in return. No harm done, just don't scare her like that again!]

She seems really skittish...but I guess she is a deer, so. ...Or kinda...like one.

Except deer can't... what, grow plants? She's a plant one, right?

[The Deerling chirps in confirmation. Yes, she is a 'plant' one.]

I dunno what that really...means, but. The Pokedex says she's a grass type.

Grass, Plant, same thing!

Totodile is Water! Grass is supposed to be strong against him.

[Yes he knows they're supposed to be looking for Dipper's sister, but it's Rin: he's gotta establish the strength pecking order here and Dipper is apparently hydrophobic or something so BATTLE NOW]

I've never really...battled before though, so...
