[She's not sure what's going on, can feel herself getting angry about it-- what the hell is this place? What are these creatures? But she can't afford to get angry right now, not with Emil around and still looking like...]

Don't worry about that right now.

Have you seen Nier?

[stonebones]

[While he was mostly oblivious to the actions of Weiss the Duskull, it had been just enough time for the pokemon to learn to phase through Emil's hand to let him know if he was leaving the boy's side. Emil may be frozen to the spot in hesitation, but the Duskull has taken it upon himself to investigate this mysterious woman. Even without the chill moving up from his fingertips, his exhale would have been a bit shaky.]

No. I don't know where he is -- or Mr. Weiss, or Sebastian... You're the first one.

[adumbrates]

[Kainé watches, a little wary. No, it's not a shade, dammit-- but that doesn't mean...

Well, if the creature isn't going to cause a problem for her, she doesn't have to try and punch a ghost out of the way. Even if it is named after Weiss.]

They've gotta be around here somewhere. That stuffy paperback wouldn't miss the opportunity to gloat.

[stonebones]

...Mmn. I'm almost looking forward to having him yell at me for naming this ghost after him.

[The Duskull seems more curious than critical in his inspection, so it's likely that Emil named him for his difficulty in sensing the creature rather than after his personality. Probably a good thing.

Finally, Emil takes a small step forward, reaching into the bag hung around his shoulder as he did so.]

I've been listening for them -- for all of you -- over the technology here, but I don't know if they've figured it out or not. [Playing guess-and-check with all the buttons was hard when you had to shut your eyes every time, but he'd taken advantage of his appearance and gotten help from a Nurse Joy.] Or if...

...Kainé? The magic here works...differently. Do you think they'll be alright?

[adumbrates]

[That's a good thing, it makes her smile, just slightly-- though she would deny that's what it was if asked. (Good thing Emil has to wear that blindfold.)]

I've never seen technology like this before.

[It's painful to admit.]

I don't know.

[That? That's worse? She's used to being strong, only relying on herself, but she cares about Nier. She might even care about that sorry excuse for a magic book.]

Nier's a strong guy; he'll be fine.

[If only she could believe her own words.]

[It makes his heart sink a little, but it makes sense. Emil still couldn't remember a lot of what had happened -- things stuck out here and there -- but there was a difference in things between the present and...before. The lab was almost alien in comparison.

At least he can make her feel more useful.]

Now that you're here, we can look together! One of the buttons shows your face, so I... I didn't want to use it. [Just in case something went wrong.] Even if they haven't figured it out, maybe someone else has seen them.

[Emil pauses for a moment, but when he nods his voice is more firm.]

You're right. He is strong. Both of them.

[adumbrates]

[She smiles.

Kainé might be working with a group now, and happily, but she's spent enough time on her own she can build herself up, make herself feel strong when she really needs to.]

We'll look for them. I don't know what's going on, but...

[No, she won't think about this now.]

They have to be around here.

[stonebones]

Oh, that's right.

[Now that he wasn't alone anymore, his confidence that things would work out was already rising, so he could focus on something s bit more...light, for the time being. He puts the pokegear away and reaches out a bit. The Duskull stops his appraisal, giving a ghastly but almost childish giggle before moving from Kainé back to Emil. The skull ghost might have been frightening to the boy once upon a time, but by the time he'd actually gotten an idea of what the thing looked like, they'd already started to get along.]

Kainé, this is Weiss! He was here with me when I woke up. Do you have anything with you?

[Being out on the routes made it harder to pick out different beings based on footsteps, and of course there were types like Weiss to make it extra challenging.]

[adumbrates]

[She tips her head, looking thoughtful.]

Nothing that looks like that.

[She's not sure what to think about naming an animal after Weiss, but then again Kainé would probably do the same. Though naming a pet after Nier would be a little... strange.

She shows Emil the Pokeball she woke up next to.]

Just this thing.

[stonebones]

[He works his way closer, smiling to himself as he inhales deeply. She didn't have the same rugged smell as Nier, but it was comforting all the same (and always fresher than one might expect for Kainé, especially if one was a floating book.) Satisfied with the wave of nostalgia, Emil reaches up touch what he suspects she's holding.]

Ah! Yes, Weiss was in one of these when I got here, too.

[He doesn't ask her if she's figured out how it works, musing to himself that either way the answer probably wouldn't lift Kainé's spirits. Instead, he taps the center button himself to release the pokemon inside and uses the thumb of his other hand to navigate his 'gear over to the pokedex function.]

[That... actually gets her to relax a little. She still doesn't have a clue what the little ball is, but if the thing Emil has is friendly, Kainé, isn't exactly going to be worried.

She glances down at the Pokeball. Not knowing how it works is a problem, but thankfully Emil figures out how to teach her how to use it and not insult her at the same time.

There's a flash of light, and then a strange creature emerges, giving a battle pose in greetings to her as it pads up next to Kainé as though grateful to be finally let out of the Pokeball.]

...You're pretty cute looking.

[stonebones]

Mienfoo, the Martial Arts Pokemon. In fights, they dominate with onslaughts of flowing, continuous attacks. With their sharp claws, they cut enemies.

[He's about to inform her that he unfortunately had no idea what a Mienfoo is, but then pauses and smiles, taking on a sincere tone.]

It sounds like it suits you, Kainé.

[Sorry about that time he saw what you looked liked, but you're pretty. ...Oh, the pokedex entry, that too.]

[It does sound like it fits her. She has to admit, she's a little proud of the little thing.]

Sounds like she and I will get along.

[She doesn't even know if the Mienfoo is female, but it gives a happy foo in response, so maybe she was right?]
