[So there's a guy sitting in one of the parks in Goldenrod, right. He's got blue hair, weird clothes, and a very serious expression on his face as he stares into the gooey ball of a Goomy he has in front of him.]

[... Neither of them are saying anything, at least not for a while, but eventually the guy speaks.]

So... how are you a dragon again?

[Some Endless are weird, but not this weird.]

[So there's this guy in a department store, thankfully without a Goomy near him. He's in the appliance section and staring at... everything. Eventually he goes up to a refrigerator and opens it.]

... This doesn't look like a very comfortable bed.

[Someone's calling, kind of hoarsely at this point, from the third trap chamber down in the ruins. He managed to stumble down through the first two fine, with a little help from his Happiny and the Espurr he caught on Route 29, but now he's kind of. Uh.

Stuck.]

If anyone else has seen their way to falling down all these fuckin' traps, I guess we could use a hand. Or a rope, maybe.

[Dave sweeps the dim light of his Pokégear across the room and rubs his poor, abused tuchus.]

Or 'water,' I guess?

[He looks up again, the corners of his mouth pulled down in annoyance that teeters on the edge of, but hasn't yet plunged down, the slope to real worry.]

But seriously, how about a rope. I'm sick of tumbling down these Stone Age trapdoors all day like a useless piece of shit. Ow, Jesus, Eltee.

[The Happiny just makes a little hmph! noise and dusts her hands off after judiciously using Pound on Dave's foot.

[Apparently some teenage girls don't like wading through a sea of Grimer and Muk.]

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of things that suck nuts about kicking the bucket -- [Izabel grimaces and pushes one of the pokemon down from her leg, though the damage to her jeans is already done. Gotta burn these, when she gets done here.] -- but right now? Really kinda miss not having my legs.

[If only the pokemon holding the Grimer she'd managed to catch hadn't sunk into the neverending void of ick surrounding her. If only her Aipom wasn't being a little brat. If only the Youngster who'd told her to go out and catch a little purple blob had let her know that he'd meant Ditto, a train ride away from the Celadon City she was currently in.

But when had life ever been fair?]

I swear to god, this thing better net me so many eggs...

[Thankfully Dave's got that light. Doesn't take long for Izabel to jog over.]

Oh, hey! Thought I heard someone else down here. Sorry if the little monster's been bothering you.

[WHAT LIGHT, THROUGH YONDER DARKNESS BREAKS; IT IS —

...Well, actually, it seems like it's somebody's tail flame, actually, which is sort of weird when you figure that most people generally don't wander around with their butts on fire, or if they do they're typically at least moving a lot faster than this particular light source is at the moment.

Actually, yes, that's definitely a flame attached to somebody's tail; there's a long red reptilian length of it dangling over the edge of the pitfall that Dave's fallen into, one story up.

From the way it's shuffling around and sort of wagging, it seems like maybe whoever this particular butt-light belongs to is looking for the source of the voice calling for assistance...?]

[He turns and looks at her, blinking in confusion.]

[For a moment, she looks genuinely sad that this guy doesn't seem to be fucking with her.]

A refrigerator? You know, like... [Okay Izabel, you can't just say "A FRIDGE" over and over and expect him to suddenly get it.] Well, how about a pantry? Do you know what that is?

Oh, yeah! That's where the bread is. At least that's what Nina told me when we passed it in the castle...

[Frame of reference, hurray. Kind of "ehhh" about the whole castle part, though.]

They can hold all kinds of food, too, not just bread. Anyway, a fridge is like a pantry that keeps food and things cold so they don't, like, rot as fast or whatever.

Oh... that's really helpful. ... But why don't they just use magic or something?

Never seen a spell that could. That'd be kind of a waste too, right? I don't really get how it works for the Horns, but it's usually a lot of give and take, isn't it? There's a sacrificial component to, like, every spell I've heard about. Electricity's way easier.

Well... I mean, it takes energy, but... huh. I guess the ice would go away once the spell is over.

And what's electricity?

Uh... Nnnnatural energy? [Let's go with that. Explaining things in ways that wasn't "and then some magical fairy farted out a universe and that's how the world was made" was hard.] It's what makes fridges and things like that run. Seriously man, your planet sounds like it sucks.

I like where I came from! Even if I wasn't there at first... but I like it.

[Izabel's a little taken aback at that -- she was used to everyone agreeing that Things Weren't Great -- but it's only a few seconds before she's offering a gentler tone.]

Sorry. I've always had a bit of wanderlust, so I forget not everyone feels the same. Home's home, though! Shouldn't have talked bad about yours, especially since I haven't seen it.

It's okay. I like traveling, too. I don't really have a home, but I like the places I've seen.

And none of 'em have had fridges, huh.

[She leans against the fridge, smiling over to him as if to prove that the teasing is something friendly.]

Are you looking for a bed anyway, or did you just think this thing was one? Most dudes I know just stay at the inns or the centers.

[He shakes his head, just shrugging a bit.]

I was just looking at them. It's really interesting.

If you're looking at it and expecting to sleep in one, sure.

[She gives the fridge another appraisal, then lifts herself off it.]

I'm Ryu! Thanks for the offer... a lot of stuff here is really confusing.

At least it keeps things interesting! Though the whole "draining the wallet" part of this place in particular is a real bummer. Home appliances? Expensive as hell! And they want you to pay all that after you spend a buttload of money on your own place. Makes you wonder how many people actually settle down around here.

[She walks a little further down, inspecting the price tags.]

Nuts. Anyway, all these things run on electricity, too. Most things do.

Yeah. I like learning new things! It's kind of fun. I don't know how many people settle down... but I like traveling.

Yeah. Maybe now I'll have the chance to grow old and boring, but until then? Pretty happy with moving all over this place.

[Izabel tucks some of the longer parts of her hair behind an ear, eyes rolling up to the ceiling.]

Hoo boy, how to explain that... Uh, well first. What kind of pokemon-thingies you got, so far?
