If Mai were to enter a Pokemon contest, which Pokemon would she choose and in what category? Any appeal strategies? :D

Oooh man...if contests were a part of this world, Mai would be ALL over it.

If it was a single pokemon contest, she would enter Jam, her aipom...because it's Jam. She'll learn to switch him out with others eventually but right now he's her favourite on account of being there when she appeared. He would be entered into the coolness category. Mai would focus on aipom's flashier moves like swift, combine it with fling and actually work out a dance routine for it.

Double pokemon contest it would be Jam and Ryugen (her Cherubi!). They would be perfect with a combination of swift and petal blizzed and would be a cute double dance routine.

She would probably struggle a bit with the actual pokemon battle part of the contest though. She'd be silly and focus more on the initial rounds coz those would be more fun.

Is he a Cherubi because there's no grape Pokemon?

He is the cherubi because Mai was camped just outside of Cherrygrove and she woke up with the cherubi in her sleeping bag it clung to her and got angry whenever her other pokemon (specially jam) gets close to her.

Mai's naming pokemon by personality mostly. And coz cherries yes.
