Test Drive Meme!

So, in light of 4th wall, I thought it might be a good time for a:

[Oh, no. Another poor sap who's going to try and aggressively befriend him. Well, let's see how this goes.]

...

[Actually, there's something strange here.]

You're deliberately stating the opposite of what you mean. A fairly unusual verbal tic, all things considered.
honestgirl: (i hate you)

[personal profile] honestgirl 2013-11-30 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Oddly enough, that gets a smile out of her. Not having Evelyn or Karina around to explain it had been something that was worrying her.]

That's not true! But my father doesn't do the same. You were slow to pick up on it.
deadpanned: (NONPLUSSED ◊ what is this material)

[personal profile] deadpanned 2013-11-30 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. It runs in the family, then.

[He shrugs slightly. Mystery solved.]

Have you considered mime?
honestgirl: (worst fashion sense)

[personal profile] honestgirl 2013-11-30 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
That's it exactly. My older sister Evelyn also uses opposites.

[...So it's really hard to say who the odd one(s) in the family is/are.]

Mime...? You mean staying silent?

Yes.

[Beat.]

Alternatively, you could signal when you have reversed a statement's intended meaning via a prearranged motion — raising two fingers, for example.
honestgirl: (not concerned)

[personal profile] honestgirl 2013-11-30 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
I think that...would make me happy.

[And she doesn't even need to do a signal to show how false that statement is -- Sofia's face says it all.]

The less people know me, the harder it is for them to understand me. Besides, giving a signal would work immediately, I'm afraid.

...Do you find it easy to understand me?

[personal profile] deadpanned 2013-11-30 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
It's not particularly difficult, given enough focus.

I presume, however, that most people do not pay the requisite level of attention to such things.
honestgirl: (totally not sarcasm)

[personal profile] honestgirl 2013-11-30 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yes... How unfortunate that I live in a small town where no one is familiar with my habit.

[Oh right, she should probably...do that thing people do when they meet each other. This kid seemed friendly enough! Well, he didn't abandon her because of her quirk, anyway...]

My name is Sofia. What can I call you?
deadpanned: (ANALYTICAL ◊ plenty of dirt all around)

[personal profile] deadpanned 2013-11-30 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
Technically speaking, you are theoretically capable of calling me whatever you want.

[...Rudy.]

I take it you are likewise a recently-arrived inmate.
honestgirl: (so expected)

[personal profile] honestgirl 2013-11-30 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll call you Polite, then!

[Despite her words, Sofia's tone is light and positive, and HEY RUDY, HEY in opposite speak, that's almost your name.]

Inmate...? [...This was kind of a really open area to be considered a jail. Oh well.] No, I arrived here ages ago and recall exactly how it happened.
deadpanned: (DEVIOUS ◊ one thousand volleyballs)

[personal profile] deadpanned 2013-11-30 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
You would admittedly be the first to do so.

[And despite not changing expression, he still looks vaguely amused.]

And assuming you have reversed again, we appear to be in the same predicament.
