ossifragant: i'm falling (Ò hi i'm icarus)

[The pupils might not be cat-like slits anymore, but they're certainly a strange shade. He hasn't exactly felt the need to disguise them in some time, though. Partially because he's never felt the need to hide what he is and partially because today isn't exactly bright and sunny so he doesn't see the need.]

I get that every once in a while. I suppose I must have one of those faces.

[He doesn't know if this is the one from his world or the one from the other. Kimblee had told him not too long ago about how he really didn't want to get involved with what happened in Greed's version of Amestris and he can't blame the man. Greed doesn't want to be involved with what happened, not anymore. That could go for either version, really.]

Funny. I didn't catch your name, either.

Call me Greed.

[Breathe, Greed.

His team is stronger than Hughes' no matter what. If it comes to some sort of battle, he can use one of his Pokemon to create a distraction and then recall them as soon as he's started to run.]
father_of_the_year: ([Amused])

[personal profile] father_of_the_year 2014-09-04 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a dangerous glint off the Major's glasses for a half-second there, but he refuses to jump to conclusions. He was trained better than that. Lumping all cases of something together would make him no different than that serial killer "Scar" who seemed to have a very pointed(albeit well-deserved) grudge against the Military.

Besides, lumping people together like that's not actually a great way to be a decent person.

The pleasantries continue.]

Ah, I'm sorry for that. I'm normally a lot better about that sort of thing.

I'm Maes. Maes Hughes.

Nice to meet you, Greed. That's an unusual name, actually. Is there a story behind it?

[Yup. Obfuscating stupidity dorking is at full. But hey, it's smalltalk. And smalltalk is always useful.

If this stranger was a friend of Envy's, though, why was he taking the time to carry on such a casual conversation?]
ossifragant: (Ò must prepare me)

[personal profile] ossifragant 2014-09-04 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
[He had nothing to do with the situation that Hughes had found himself in, though he has no actual way to prove it. He'd been in Dublith by the time it happened, probably, and had concentrated on other things.]

There's not much to say about it. You could say the person who named me had a sick sense of humor, I suppose.

[It's not a lie. An evasive answer, yes, but Greed doesn't tell lies.]
father_of_the_year: ([Beats me.])

[personal profile] father_of_the_year 2014-09-04 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
[..Well, that was an interesting answer. Kind of a depressing one too, actually, when you put it like that..]

Is Envy your brother, then?

[That was a lot more blunt than he would've liked, but he keeps the inquiry as natural and neutral as humanly possible. He was almost surprised at how composed he was at that question, honestly, given what had transpired..

As far as tone and expression goes, however, he could've easily just asked how the weather was.

..Guess his training was just that good?]
ossifragant: (Ò down man for judgment)

[personal profile] ossifragant 2014-09-04 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have any siblings.

[There's no denial that he knows. Envy. There's no surprise. All things considered, it's a simple statement. He places his right hand in his pocket, looking far too casual for someone in his situation.

He may act like a fool, but he isn't an idiot. He's being interrogated. It's just the fact that he doesn't mind that keeps him looking so calm when he's anything but.]
father_of_the_year: ([Beats me.])

[personal profile] father_of_the_year 2014-09-04 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
No? Huh.

Guess that means that there's more than a few people giving names like that out these days. What's the world coming to?

[Maes gives a shrug and a dismissive handwave at that.

Just as Greed isn't the idiot he acts, neither is Maes the fool he often acts the part of.

He'll let the issue drop for now, though. It really wasn't all that different from when he'd been trying to get answers out of Bradley's secretary, really. Idle chatter, circle the point, circle the point some more, drive for the point...circle back some more..]
ossifragant: (Ò on which will arise)

[personal profile] ossifragant 2014-09-04 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
[He shrugs, his hands both firmly in his pockets.]

Beats me.

[As open as he is about not being human, as open as he is about how much he hated Amestris and will talk about the world he left behind, he has very little motivation to bring that world's problems here.

It wasn't something he was involved with. Envy and Lust hadn't done it out of thirst for bloodshed even if they had enjoyed it. It had been a job, and that was something that Greed understood well enough. But this, in particular, is the man who investigated Greed's own escape from the laboratory. Who had been informed about how Kimbley was alive and had somehow escaped, and that makes him a little less willing to cooperate than he had been with the one when he hadn't been certain what world he was from.]

This place is much more interesting anyway. Lizards taller than a man, horses with manes made out of fire, and living rocks are all seen as normal, everyday household pets.

[The tone isn't threatening, but the intent is obvious.]
father_of_the_year: ([Pokemon])

[personal profile] father_of_the_year 2014-09-04 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
[A distraction he'd welcome, for now.]

A fire horse, huh?

[If only Roy could see one of those. Jokes that make themselves for $200.]

I'm guessing you've picked up a few pets, then? Can I see?

[No seriously, he's genuinely curious at that, and if Greed was being friendly enough...Well..]
ossifragant: (Ò must prepare me)

[personal profile] ossifragant 2014-09-04 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's right. He was one of the first I picked up.

[It isn't as though Pokemon are trained to fight humans. They wouldn't listen to him if it came to that, and it's possible some of them would refuse to fight a low enough level Pokemon, too.

It figures he would end up with a handful of fighting animals that don't actually enjoy fighting. He tugs a Pokeball off his belt just the same and presses the button on it, releasing the animal inside.

And yup, that sure is a fire horse.]

The flames won't hurt when he's not feeling threatened.

[And despite how on-edge Greed is, the Rapidash doesn't look the least bit worried.]
father_of_the_year: ([Pokemon])

[personal profile] father_of_the_year 2014-09-04 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
[And the inevitable countdown to Hughes finding something to fuss over and dote on has ticked its way down to zero again.

He knew enough about how to be around horses that he didn't want to make any sudden movements to startle it, but there was a lot of cooing and admiration and carefully approaching the animal and petting if there didn't seem to be any objection. Steering away from the flames though, obviously, because if the horse decided that it didn't like him...well..Field treatment of burns is a lot more difficult when you don't have the usual kind of medkits handy and aren't familiar with the local flora.

He sure is wishing he had sugarcubes or an apple or carrot or something handy, though.]

Does he have a name?
ossifragant: (Ò all we've got)

[personal profile] ossifragant 2014-09-04 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
[The Rapidash certainly seems to be enjoying the attention. Sure, he gets it from Greed and those that Greed is extremely close to, but he doesn't normally get it from complete strangers.

So fortunately, there isn't any danger of the flames suddenly getting dangerously hot or anything.]

It's Becker.

[Which is a rather odd name for a horse given that it's a surname.]
father_of_the_year: ([Pokemon])

[personal profile] father_of_the_year 2014-09-04 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
[And there's slowly deciding to pet the flaming mane, or rather, the base of where the flames lie, given how fire isn't exactly tangible the way hair or fur would be. Very much continuing to dote on and fawn over the horse, though.]

Becker, huh? Kind of has a nice ring to it.

[He figures that the horse was probably named after someone, but he doesn't bother to ask. Besides, fussing over the gorgeous firehorse was clearly a ton more important.

And hey, he couldn't talk about naming quality - if he had one of these, it would surely wind up being named Roy for obvious reasons. Even if the colonel wouldn't find it half as amusing as he does.]

So you ride, then?
ossifragant: (Ò of names and dates)

[personal profile] ossifragant 2014-09-05 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Becker still doesn't appear threatened, which is a good thing, since even if it won't cause horrible third degree burns, it still hurts.]

Yeah, I thought so too.

[All of Greed's Pokemon were named after people. Nearly all of them dead, but that's a rather sad thing to admit.]

I used to ride a long, long time ago. Not so much anymore. I have another Pokemon I usually ride instead, though Becker is a perfectly good steed.
father_of_the_year: ([Pokemon])

[personal profile] father_of_the_year 2014-09-05 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
He's a gorgeous horse, that's for sure.

[Going to pet Becker's nose - horses generally like that, right?]

..Mind if I ask what you usually ride these days, then?
ossifragant: (⊗ get that damn thing off the neck)

[personal profile] ossifragant 2014-09-05 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
[It seems that way, because Becker neighs appreciatively.]

Oh, I normally ride Cedric. He's a Scolipede.

[Giant beetle, even. They apparently have a rotten temper normally, but Cedric is lazy as hell.]
father_of_the_year: ([Aha!])

[personal profile] father_of_the_year 2014-09-06 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
[In which case, Maes continues to provide nosepettings!]

Scolipede? Oh! Like a centipede, right?

[Hey, it's not his fault that that's what the name sounds like! (even if it is close to accurate in this case)]
